Jonah Brown
Science Teacher & Advisor
Jonah’s career in education began when he volunteered through City Year Americorps and taught middle school science in New Orleans. Prior to this experience he performed biomedical research and sought a treatment for Triple Negative Breast Cancer through molecular synthesis.
After obtaining a BS in chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana he intended on pursuing a PhD in organic chemistry and continuing research; however, the global pandemic paused those plans and caused him to reevaluate how his time on this planet could best be spent. Through his time with Americorps he found great joy in the classroom.
Jonah relocated to Bay to be closer to family, and through this move he has been able to embrace the broad nature of science, teaching courses in coding, mathematics, engineering and most recently crocheting. From these experiences he has found that while the subject of science encompasses a whole host of topics with their own respective content, at its core is any systematic effort to understand the wider world. As such, he places great emphasis on developing his students’ critical thinking skills and providing them the tools to effectively engage and appreciate the world around them.
Jonah is currently pursuing a Masters in Teaching. In his free time he enjoys drawing, painting and crochet and he looks forward to contributing to the Field community.
