Jake Wolter grew up in the eastbay, did his undergrad at San Jose State University, and received his Master’s in Teaching from the University of San Francisco. Having lived a majority of his life in the Bay Area, Jake likes to bring local history and knowledge into his classroom whenever he gets a chance. He believes that when students are able to see and make connections between Humanities curriculum and their environment, students can truly feel the value of learning. As a new teacher/staff member to Field, Jake is eager to begin aligning his curriculum with the trips that Field organizes to further expand students’ conception of history.

Having taught middle school for almost a decade, Jake recognizes the value of these transformative years. He believes that if learning remains dynamic and engaging in these middle years, students will continue to carry their joy for learning throughout the rest of their academic careers and into their professional lives. While emphasizing the importance of primary sources and digital literacy, Jake’s hope as an educator is to instill a critical lens for all documents or media one might come across beyond school. Being able to effectively contextualize and corroborate a variety of sources gives students the confidence and skills to make their own interpretations about events past and present.

Jake is a fond lover of all spicy foods and traveling whenever he gets a chance. When Jake is not teaching, you can find him exploring San Francisco with his girlfriend or skateboarding around the Bay Area with his friends.
